Capital Grants

Capital Grants are available to Colorado animal welfare organizations that have received funding within the last three years from the Animal Assistance Foundation and are seeking a grant of over $100,000 for an asset such as a facility, equipment, or proprietary software that has a useful life of more than one year.

Goal of Capital Grants

Strengthen and support organizations that highly impact animal welfare and benefit both animals and humans in their community.

Invest in long-term animal welfare solutions for Colorado communities in deep and lasting ways.

Increase sustainability of the organizations in our industry and our communities.

  • ✔️ Designated 501 (c)(3) non-profit, fiscal sponsor or government entity 

    ✔️ Located in Colorado and primarily serving animals already in Colorado

    ✔️ Proposal aligns with the mission of AAF

    ✔️ Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, community responsibility, and non-divisive language 

    ✔️ Recent PACFA license and statistics for organizations requiring a license through the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act

    ✔️ All organizations must be reporting data to Shelter Animals Count or the Equine Welfare Data Collective, if applicable

    ✔️The organization has an existing track record and is in good standing with the Animal Assistance Foundation, including funding within the last three years.

    ✔️The organization has completed appropriate project feasibility studies and has obtained initial engineering and planning documents.

    ✔️Successful grantees typically have raised at least 30% of the total capital project cost prior to requesting support from Animal Assistance Foundation. If you are seeking funding with a plan that falls outside of these parameters (seed money, matching campaign, etc.) please feel free to contact us for a conversation about your request.

    ✔️The organization owns or has a long-term lease agreement on the property where capital improvements are taking place.

    ╳ Organizations that primarily import animals into Colorado 

    ╳ Endowments

    ╳ Individuals or individual pets

    ╳ Medical or scientific research

    ╳ Debt retirement
